School Done!!! Other stuff in life to write about now….

Happy Thanksgiving Day

Today is celebrated as Thanksgiving Day in the United States. We have a few Jamericans here too but for the most part it is a US holiday. I do wish you all a Happy Thanksgiving. As you indulge in your turkey and cranberry etc. please say a thank you for all the things for which you are grateful, first and foremost on that list should be life, as without that there would be no thanking anybody for anything.

Well, Yes, I’m Still Alive and Well…I think

Well I have been noticably absent from the blog arena for quite a bit. No, I haven’t thrown in the towel but school has me run ragged. I have only one exam this semester but right now I’m screaming at the top of my lungs “give me the exams and take away the coursework”.  I haven’t been reading at all so I will have to devote some time to catching up.

Well I see OJ Simpson is at it again. I won’t bother to comment any further than what you see in the media. Rain has been pelting us here for the last two days. Not heavy just right through the day. Driving in it has been miserable but because it hasn’t been heavy it’s more a pain than a bother.

Well I decided to do some financial house cleaning. Got rid of some credit cards and I am hoping that I can survive the onslaught of school fees and groceries and bills. I think I needed to get rid of them though. They are EVIL!!! Well I will see what my paycheque looks like on Friday. My company recently signed our new wage package for 2006 – 2008. The on paper part does look too bad but I will hold judgement until I see the cheque and what the taxes have done to it. Right now though something better than nothing.

A friend of mine just advised me that her papers to migrate are finally coming through after many years of waiting. Based on the timeline she has received she should be leaving by this time next year. I know things have been hard on her but on my side I’m kinda sorry to see her go. I went through so much of the losing friends to migration phase while I was in high school and to think that I am now a grown horseback man and it is still happening. Life I guess. People pass through our lives for a reason and a season. I guess the season for her is coming to an end. Well, in all honesty it has been about a fifteen year season. These days friendships don’t end because of distance, they change context and content but usually they are more survivable.  There is email and MSN and cell phones and airplanes.

Other than that, I’m just swamped so please don’t think I’ve snobbed you or anything like that. I’m just counting down my time at university and looking forward to the day I’m out of the torture.

Well I see they have added a date stamp at the bottom of my template si I can now stop putting it in the titles. Continuous improvements at its best.

Too tired/Busy/Disorganized to Post 8/11/2006

Well since I haven’t had the chance to sit and write anything of any value I’m sure you will all appreciate some morning humour even if you’ve heard it before, smile anyway and enjoy the day.

 The Deaf Bookie

A Mafia Godfather finds out that his bookkeeper has cheated him out of ten million bucks.

His bookkeeper is deaf. That was the reason he got the job in the first place. It was assumed that a deaf bookkeeper would not hear anything that he might have to testify about in court.

When the Godfather goes to confront the bookkeeper about his missing $10 million, he brings along his attorney, who knows sign language.

The Godfather tells the lawyer, “Ask him where the 10 million bucks he embezzled from me is.”

The attorney, using sign language, asks the bookkeeper where the money is.

The bookkeeper signs back: “I don’t know what you are talking about.”

The attorney tells the Godfather: “He says he doesn’t know what you’re talking about.”

The Godfather pulls out a pistol, puts it to the bookkeeper’s temple and says, “Ask him again!”

The attorney signs to the bookkeeper: “He’ll kill you if you don’t tell him!”

The bookkeeper signs back: “OK! You win! The money is in a brown briefcase, buried behind the shed in my cousin Enzo’s backyard in
Queens!”

The Godfather asks the attorney: “Well, what’d he say?”

The attorney replies: “He says you don’t have the balls to pull the trigger.”

Do We Have It Right? 02/11/2006

I sat at home this morning in one of those really idle moods watching some celebrity crap on TV. It dawned on me….why are actors, athletes, supermodels etc. paid so much money? What is the real value of their work? How do you compare their net value to that of our teachers and nurses who make so little and are so vital to our existence. My thinking…We have things the wrong way around.
